OTAGO LABOUR CONFERENCE

Among' ths proposals to be discussed at the Otago Labour Conference, opening' on 20th February, are several of general interest. In one, improvement of industrial organisation is urged, side by side with greater attention to political ■ activity by co-operation with the Otago Labour Representation Committee. Another proposal emphasises the need for further organisation .of female workers in order' that the interests of both males and females may be protected. Compulsory unionism, by amendment of the Arbitration Act, is the subject of another remit. Interchangeable membership cards are also suggested. ; Further, there' is a request for a full report upon war effects and repatriation proposals.
