DISCHARGED SOLDIERS
PROVISION FOR EMPLOYMENT.
At the last meeting of the Wellington Trades and Labour Council, a communication was received from the Auckland Labour Representation Committee conveying a protest against interference with industrial awards and agreements, as provided for in the Order-in-Council issued in. December, regarding the employment of discharged soldiers. Tho Trades Council endorsed the Auckland resolution of protest. The council further expressed the opinion that in New Zealand, there were many openings which could be made available for returned and partially incapacitated sbldiers in new .lines of industry. The manufacture of toys and other light handicrafts we're suggested by the council as suitable for development for this purpose. . The New Zealand . Federated Typographical Association at its monthly meeting last Saturday passed the following resolution:—"That this association emphatically protests against the National Government's suspension by Order in Council of the provisions of the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act and awards and industrial agreements without first consulting the unions of the Dominion."
