Latest advices received from Egypt state that Capt. J. B. Hine, M.P., who was seriously wounded in Palestine some time ago, is now itall on the road to re- ■ covery. That the wound was a serious ■ one is shown by the fact that letters. ; received from men who were in the ; battle in which Capt. Hine was wound- ' ed state definitely that they believed him to bo killed.

' The Manawatu, Standard reports that ; ya .collision occurred on the railway lino \ near Awapuni Station on Saturday even- / ing between tho late train from Welling- , ton and a Tailway jigger propelled, by a [ railway carpenter named James Humphreys, who sustained severe injuries. The jigger was sighted by the fireman on the' engine,' and "the brakes were immediately applied, but not in time tc- avoid the accident. After tho impact tho driver and fireman went round to the front of the engine, where they found Humphreys dying on the cowcatcher unconscious. Erst aid was rendered by the guards on the train; and the injured man brought on to Pahnerston and conveyed to the ihospital, where it was found: he had. sustained a fracture- of the right thigh and injuries to" the left leg. The jigger, which carried no lights, was smashed to -pieces by the force of the collision.

A peculiar accident is reported by the Express. A lady who was oii'board the Pateena on the voyage between Wellington and Picton was wrapping up her little daughter, aged iivo years, when the steamer gave a roll. The child fell out of her arms and through a skylight on to the cabin floor, sustaining severe injuries. After being medically ' attended at.
