A BRILLIANT WIN

WELLINGTON HOCKEY GIRLS DEFEAT CANTERBURY.

Wellington scored a brilliant'■: victory over Canterbury ifr the third match in the ladies' triangular hockey tournament played at Christchurch on Saturday. There was a large attendance' of the public, and spectators .were treated; to a notable exhibition of the stick game. Practically all the Wellington girls did well, but according to accounts received, Miss T. Murphy, in the half line, played a wonderful game., -jMiss K. Skinner, too, was perfectly safe in. goal, and the only time a 1 point was scored against her she stopped the ball with her stick, but it rose, hit the cross bar, and dropped into the net. Miss K. Israel did excellent work as left half. For fully three parts of'the game Wellington attacked; and the final score-;-2 to 1 in Wellington's favour—hardly indicates the superiority shown all through by the Wellington girte. On two occasions Miss Williams would have scored had she been left alone by other members of her team Wellington's first score came early in the first spell, Miss N. Lang securing a goal after a persistent attack. On resuming, Wellington maintained the pressure, and. eventually Miss Williams found the net Canterbury's goal came late in the second epell and sound defensive tactics by Wellington marked the play from then on to the end. , While.in Christchurch the Wellington ladies were excellently treated. On Thursday night" they were the guests of the Christchurch ladies • at a picture theatre 1, on Friday afternoon they were entertained at the residence of the Hon. J. Barr, Redcliffe, Sumner, and on Saturday morning they were entertained to tea at.Digby's College.
