With a. view to obviating the serious corrosive action which has been taking place in connection '.with the septic ; tanks at Gisborne, a new system of ventilation has just been installed. The corrosion, which was due to the sewer gas, was eating into the concrete work of the outlet chambers, and even the. earthenware pipes were found to have been softened.
