The Department of Agriculture, Industries, and Commerce has received the! following cablegram, dated London, 18th August, 1917, from the Higli Commis-: sioner for New Zealand. (Note: Quota-, tions, unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on spot).
Meat. —Market continues firm for all descriptions of frozen meat. Home killed mutton and beef, in good supply, selling at •comparatively low prices. New Zealand mutton, per lb, 8-Jd; ewe mutton, Bi,d ; Argentine mutton, lOd ; New Zealand lamb, in small supply, lOd ; Argentine lamb, lid ;'New ' Zealand beef, no supplies available, with the exception of : New Zealand boneless beef, lOd; Argentine beef, quotations' are nominal, hinds' 14d, fores 10id.' Butter and. Cheese.—Maximum prices remain unchanged for both bufeter and cheese. Butter: Small supplies. Market continues firm. Danish, no quotations; New Zealand, no supplies available, no quotations; Irish creamery, heavy buying by Home and Continental trade; salted, peT cwt, 2065; unsalted, 2095: Argentine, no supplies available; no quotations. Cheese: Market continues firm. English Cheddar, per cwt, 1325. Hemp. —Manila market continues firm. New Zealand quotations' are irregular, business restricted, especially forward shipment, owing to possibility Government controlling prices. Quotations are nominal. New Zealand, good, fair, on spot, £93 per ton; August to October shipment, £92; New Zealand, fair, on spot, £91; August to October shipment, £90.
Wheat.—Little business doing. Offerings from all sources are small; prices remain unchanged. Oats.—Market is quiet, but steady. Canadian, 63s 3d; American, 61s,
