THE MARKETS
ADVANCE IN CEREAL PRICES.
The New Zealand Farmers' Co-opera-tive Distributing Co. reports to-day with respect to the potato market that full supplies are available and values have in no way changed. All cereals meet with a ready demand, and all descriptions have advanced in price. Fowl wheat, on account of no shipping from Australia, is unobtainable. For the same reason oats are very firm,' with an upward tendency. This can also be said with regard to maize, which is also readily disposed of at somewhat higher values. Onions have now reached' a particularly high price, and business in consequence has slightly eased. A few lines of bran and poUard have been on offer this week, but at considerably advanced rates. Prime lines of pork are eagerly enquired for, and those coming forward are realising high figures. The demand for poultry far exceeds the supply. Dessert apples have been a little better in supply, and values have declined! slightly. Cooking apples are realising], high figures. Dessert pears have been coming in more freely, but cooking pears have been somewhat short. The above remarks apply to the later end of the week, but during the earlier part, no doubt owing to the wet weather, the markets were very bare.
