At the next monthly meeting of the Council of the Central Chamber of Commerce, the taxation proposals conained in the Budget will be discussed.
The Telegraph Department has been notified, that all code addresses registered in the -United States of America since Ist January, 1917, are not available for use. The notification that telegrams, including cable messages, axe accepted by the Department at the sender's visk, and that no- enquiry, regarding the fate of any cable "message will be undertaken by administrations beyond the Dominion, is repeated for public information.
Private news has been received that Major James Mackintosh Bell, of the Royal Highlanders of Canada, 73rd Battalion (formerly director of it-he Geological Survey Department in this T)ominion), is now in Russia on military service. Prior to the war he spent a considerable time in Russia, where he w-as employed as a consulting mining engineer, and the knowledge he then gained of the country, its people, and language, -will now stand him in good stead.
The annual conference of the Post and .Telegraph Officers' Association will be held during the last week of the present month. The visiting delegates are to be entertained in the Masonic Hall on Friday evening, 31st August, by the members of the Wellington branch.
