NEW ZEALAND CASUALTIES

IN IMPERIAL FORCES.

LONDON, 20th April,

On 9th April, the only son of ■ Mr. and Mrs. E. Wilton Schiff was killed in action. He was'2nd Lieut. Alfred Sydney. Borlase .Schiff, of the Rifle Brigade,' and his. age was- 19 years.

-2nd Lieut. W. G. 'Saxby, 8.F.A., Tokomaru Bay, is v reported wounded; also 2nd Lieut, 'E. V. .G, Day, of th« Rifle Brigade. Lieut. Saxby came to England in July last, and trained for his commission at St. John's Wood. Mr. Day, ;who is a son of Mr. .V. G. Day, SjM.,.was. formerly .Adjutant-at Ashburton. He only got his commission in the Rifle Brigade a month or tyro ago. Lieut. L. W. Tosswill (Christchurch],, Royal Warwickshire .Regiment, has also been wounded. He left New Zealand with the ,'N.Z.E.F.. and. got his commission after' 'being wounded in .Gallipoli. 2nd Lieut. F. J. Munro (Auckland), Royal Garrison Artillery, is reported ■wounded. -Mr. Munro, who is an -Englishman, . was for some time on. ithe 1 staff of the. New Zealand Herald. Coming ...home a.bout the time war broke out, he enlisted as a' gunner in the Garrison Artillery, and got his . commission,'.for .gallantry in "the'field. „ . 2nd Lieut. ,1; ,D. Trooper Fitzherbert was a trooper by choice, and for a time his- 35-year-old son, Geoffrey, who-en-listed 'with 'him, vwas his sergeant.
