COUNCIL OF N.Z. ASSOCIATION.

Last evening the quarterly meeting of the council of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association was held in the Wellington Investment Company's board room. Mr. H. G. Henderson was elected chairman, and there were present Messrs. Barry Keesing, M. F. Instone, F. F. Grady, S. W. Parker, E. Salmond, W. Melody, A. G. Henderson, and D. M. Kean. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs. R. N. K. Swanston, M. E. Denniston, and R. A. Howie.

The quarterly report of the Management Committee was read, the only matter of importance being the receipt of £100 from the Australasian Lawn Tennis Association, being the New Zealand Association's share of £700 distributed amongst- the association's, affiliated to the Australasian Lawn Tennis Association.

In connection with the adoption of a ball for the championship meeting, a ■letter wag read concerning the stocking of balls- by firms and the advantages gained by players at meetings who before the meeting knew the ball played with. It was finally agreed to adopt the -Ayres balls for the 1917 championships.

The financial statement indicated a sound position. There was £500 on. fixed deposit, credit in the Bank of New Zealand amounted to £111 7s Bd, and the subscriptions to the Wilding Memorial Fund totalled ■ £75 17s 6d.

A motion of condolence was passed with Mr. H. M. Gore, in the loss he recently sustained by the death of his mother.
