UNEMPLOYMENT IN THE DOMINION
Returns from branches of the Labour Department show that there is still a. certain amount of unemployment in the Dominion. At Dunedin. last week there were 28 applicants for work at at the Department's Employment Bureau. Four were assisted. Of the 24 unprovided for, 12 were labourers, five farm labourers, and two ploughmen. In Auckland three applicants out of thirteen were placed. The majority of those remaining were labourers. Christchurch reported that private work was quiet,.but labourers could be placed at Arthur's Pass, Culverden ballast pit, and the Parnassus-Kaikoura roadl Ten men out of 23 were placed ,in employment. In Wellington 12 out of 15 were placed. In the smaller centres there were few applicants, though New Plymouth reported that four men required employment.
