Sir Douglas Haig reports : East of Gouzeaucourt, we captured the village of Gonnelieu during the night, after som? sharp fighting. A number of prisoners were taken.A party of the'enemy,. who attempted to enter oui' trenches in the neighbourhood of Fauquissart, were repulsed. Sir Douglas Haig reports : The enemy's attempt to reebver Goiinelieii v/as unsuccessful. Our artillery, killed many of the attackers. We progressed on the north bank of the Scarpe, eastward of Fampoux; we also advanced on the line soiitli-west of Lens. Counter-attacks were repulsed. '
