EASTBOURNE BOROUGH COUNCIL

At the last meeting'of the Eastbourne Borough Council before the elections there were present the Mayor (Mr. ,J. S. Kelly) and all the councillors.

Authority ,was given Jo affix the seal of the-council to • the memorandum of transfer of "Allen-street from the Walls Trustees to the council.

'With reference to the application from the Wellington City ' Council for the remission of rates on Williams Park, on the ground that it was a public plantation, it was decided to send a reply pointing out that as the position of the borough referred to was still in native bush, the council had no power to remit the rates.

An application was received from the Muritai Tennis Club for . remission of rates, as practically all the male members of the club are on active service. It was decided to remit the amount' of the general rate only, and to ask the club to give an understanding to pay the amount of the special rates owing after the war.. .■,

At the conclusion of the business of, the meeting, opportunity was taken by the Mayor to thank the councillors and the Town Clerk for the whole-hearted co-operation they had given him during his term of office. Councillor Ltvi and several other councillors responded, and paid a tribute to the work of the retiring Mayor.
