THE MILK PROBLEM

TO THE BDITOB. . Sirj—Your correspondent, Chas. E. Wheeler, seems greatly concerned that more notice was not taken. o| his letter last week to your paper re " Municipal Milk Supply." But it was so unsound that the only thing to do was to ignore it. Now he makes a further effort and quotes certain figures which are quite random. Take my advice, Mr. Wheeler, 1 and leave figures alone. Let those who are capable of dealing with them do so. As to your statement in your first letter re 100 per cent, profit, why on earth have you not entered, into the business if you can do so well at it? Look what , you haVe" been missing. Then, as regards the overlapping of the rounds, does this not equally apply to the baker, butcher, and grocer? Then why not municipalise those, traders as well? You are out of youK depth again as to cost of horse and cart, also cans. If you will take the trouble to go to a carriage builder, he will quote you the price of a milk float. 'Perhaps you will then have a look in at some firm in the business, and ask them to quote prices for'cans necessary for a round. It shows how much you' know about the business when you speak of a' fifteen gallon round; it would not pay to run a horse and cart with. that. There are more than one or two carts going out at present .taking forty gallons and upwards, and not compact rounds a^u spe^ak of.-I

P.S.—We have heard a great deal since this war commenced of the fine bodies of men that have been sent from New. Zealand. They seem to have thrived upon the fearful milk. 18th April.
