SOLDIERS' SOCIAL CLUB

TRENTHAM CAMP.

'With .a view to organisation in the proposal for the establishment of a new Soldiers' Social Club at Trentham Camp, the Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) has called ? meeting of citizens for to-morrow evening, at 8 o'clock, in the Council Chamber. ■ . ■ ! •

The plans for the proposed new club show it to be an E-shaped building. Ihe central portion is to be the main serial hall, 60ft x 30ft, which is to be uted as an assembly-room and for general recreation purposes. On the northern side will be the men's reading and v.iiij'ngroom, 33ft x 30ft, fully equipped, and immediately adjoining' will be the men's billiard-room, , 54ft x 30ft, containing three tables. On the eastern side will be the non-commis-sioned officers' billiard-room, 40ft x' 30ft, containing two tables and a completely furnished reading and writingroom, 25ft square. At the rear of this provision is made for an officers' reading and writ-ing-room, 30ft x 20ft, and an'officers' billiard-room, 30ft x 34ft, to contain two tables. The general arrangements include living rooms for the custodian and all the necessary conveniences which go to make it aa. up-to-date social club. The building is to be. of attractive architectural design, and it is intended that the furnishing throughout, while not sumptuous, is to be comfortable. The floors are all to be covered, and provision is made for comfortable, chairs and convenient tables. ' A rough estimate of the cost of the undertaking is £2000. There are soldiers from all parts of Hie Dominion in the Trentham Camp, and the Mayor, with others, feel that ttiere are many people in other parts of the country who would be glad to contribute to the cost of a work the main feature, of which is to try and make the camp life of the soldiers as bright and happy as possible. A speedy response is hoped for, so as to ensure that the club will be an established fact before the winter comes, when it is felt -the institution will be doubly appreciated. • |
