(Received February 24, 9 a.m.) NEW YORK, 23rd February. A meeting o£ pacifists, representing • over twenty organisations, hotly debated a proposal for a referendum as to whether America should enter the >var. The principle of the referendum was approved by a small majority.
FOOD RIOTS IN NEW YORK AND PHILADELPHIA

NEW YORK, 23rd February. There is a nation-wide protest against the food prices. There have been riots in New York and Philadelphia. A man was shot and women were trampled to death. Many arrests have been made. Hundreds of women in Philadelphia raided the markets, and destroyed food with kerosene. The police dispersed them.
