SHIPBUILDING ON THE CLYDE.
Shipbuilding en the Clyde- during the year now closing (says Fairplay of 7th December) possesses few, if any, features of outstanding ■ importance. A fair amount of merchant tonnage has been launched, and while it includes a. number of large, vessels there are very few of the types lor which tho river has been -famous' in past years. Passenger, liners, for instance, are _ almost entirely absent. .There are, it is true, such vessels as tho Tyndareus, built by Messrs. Scotts' Com-
pany for Messrs. A. Holt and Co., a couple of Harrison linera 1, a Lamport and
Holt liner, and a Federal liner, all builb by Glasg*ow firms, but other than these, there are very few passenger vessels. The returns include only on/5 oil-ongined ship, Glenamoy, built by Messrs. Ha.rland and Wolff for tho Glen Line, London. There is also a geared turbine steamer, tho Westmoreland,' built by Messrs. D. and W. Henderson for the Federal Line.; Among the smaller craft constructed dur-. ing the year are two river steamers built by Messrs'. A. and J. Ing-lis, Pointhouso, for one of tho Scottish railway companies,* and a dredger for Nigeria by Messrs. William Simons and Co., Renfrew.
