In response to a request from the Mayor of Petone (Mr. J. W M'Ewan), a meeting of citizens was held in the Petone Municipal Buildings last evening for the purpose of arranging a social gathering and presentation to Mr. W. Foster, late headmaster of the local District High School. In the unavoidable absence of the Mayor, Mr. D. M*Kenzie occupied the chair. It was decided that funds be solicited from" >the 'children, old boys, and the public, and that lists be circulated. In view of the many appeals of the public, it was decided not to make a house-to-house canvass. Messrs. Bowles and Abrahall were elected secretary and treasurer respectively..
