AUCKLAND, 21st February. In the height of a gale at 5.30 this morning, a tree fell on a house in the city, smashing portion of the roof. Several inmates in a bedroom had a narrow escape, that portion of the house being rendered uninhabitable. -
Damage to yachts in the harbour is estimated at £1000, and small trading vessels suffered to a great extent. Mr. J. 3". Craig lost two vessels, and another was badly damaged. The scow /Rimu and the cutter Stag, which went ashore at Waiheke;-became total wrecks. The combined value of the vessels is £1000. The coastal service is disorganised.
