Co-ordination of science and industry was a subject brought forward by Professor Thomas last, evening at tho annual meeting of the Board of Science and Art. The professor pointed out that a great deal of routine work would be necessary, and expressed the opinion that in addition to a central board with comprehensive resources, local boards should be established in the four chief centres of the Dominion. The local boards would deal with local problems as they arose, and chemical and bacteriological laboratories should be established in each centre. On the Jocal advisory boards there should be at least two Government officers connected with' tho laboratories—one an analyst and the other a bacteriologist—and one of these could act as secretary- B.e moved that the Government be advised to constitute such boards as he had indicated, and that with a view to giving effect to the scheme the Government be requested to call a. representative conference. Mr. P. G. Morgan seconded the motion, which was supported by the Hon. G. W. Russell (Minister for Internal Affairs), and carried. It was further resolved that a committee be appointed to draw up concrete proposals to submit to the board at a future meeting, such committee to consist of Dr. J. A. Thomas, Messrs. Morgan, yon Haast, and Ewen, with power to add to-their number. .
