HOROWHENUA A. & P. SHOW

ELEVENTH ANNUAL GATHERING

A THOROUGH SUCCESS.

(PROS OUS SPBCIAU REPOMFR.)

The Horowhenua Agricultural and Pastoral Association's eleventh annual Show was held on the Levin Racecourse yesterday, and was thoroughly successful from every point of view. The entries totalled just on 600, which constitutes a record for the Show. Tho increase in numbers was mainly owing to the revival of interest in the Romney Marsh sheep clasees and the dairy cattle division. The total net proceeds of the Show are to go to tho district patriotic funds, and it is understood that this will amount to a good figure. It had been tho intention of the Hon. W. D. S. MaeDonald,. Minister of Agriculture, to bo present, but an important Cabinet meeting prevented him. from carrying out his intention. Mr. W. H. Field, M.P. for Otaki, officially opened the Show, and read a telegram explaining Mr. Mac Donald's absence. In the course of a brief speech, Mr. W. Tompsiitt, president of tile association, referred to the generosity of Mr. Norman Kirkcaldie and his father. Tho former had given £100 towards the funds, and Mr. Kirkcaldie, sen., had also contributed liberally to the prize funds. The association's thanks were also due to the PaTk Committee for a donation of £25. Feeling reference was made by the president to the death of Mr. John Davies and Mr. A.
