EGYPT WINS THE CUP.

HAWERA, 31st January. The Egmont Racing Club's Summer Meeting opened to-day in fine weather, with a large, attendance. The racing was good. The totalisator investments amounted to £23,010, against £20,030 on the corresponding day last year. ' Tho following are the concluding results :— Egmont Cup, of 500 soys; one mile and a-half.—l T. Also started—3 Paraoa 6.13, 5 Harbour Light 6.10. Won by>three-quarters of a length. Time, 2min 33 3-ssec.
Ladies' Purse, of 100 soys; one mile) and half a furlong; weight, 10,7. —1 Normanby, 1; 4 Grey Guard, 2; 5 Interval, 3. Also started—6 Compel, 9 The Ranch, 7 Praefectus, 2 Haerengawe, 8 Grandson, 3 Laura. Won by half a length. Time, lmin 53 4-ssec.
