TRAIN SERVICES

TO THE EDITOR

Sir, —As a- week-end visitor on fcha I 2.22 train to Paremata on Saturday afternoon, I and many others would like ito know the reason of the extended wait at the station of Johnsonville, and aiso the apparently unnecessary shunting wo again receive ot Tawa Flat. May I make a suggestion which would curtail all this loss of time? Why not the Paremata train, before approaching Tawa Flat to land or pick up probably one passenger, remain further down the line, allowing the express to paes, instead of first coming .to 'the station, and • then shunting back again about a .quarter of a mile to let the express througnT Not only satisfied with this, we, are detained another five minutes after the express has passed—for what reason the public of Wellington are a.t a loss. . I think the. distance is only seventeen miles and the fastest time it is completed is just under the hour. I -woilld also like to ask whether it cbuld' be possible to run the last train from Paremata on Sunday evening, say, about 9.30 to 10 o'clock, instead of the present time, 6.30, especially during the summer. 1 am perfectly sure there would be twice as many passengers take advantage of the inter train, as it would give them practically a foil day at their place of destination. M present it is quite a rush aiter having spent an enjoyable day to catch the 6.30; the later train would enable people .to take i well-earned rest- and square meal after a usually strenuous day. If this proposition of mine could be carried out, I am sure the New Zealand Railways would derive much benefit, tEbugh I must say it would be a difficult task to make a larger profit than the charges at present return.—l am, etc., ~ BUBBLE AND SQUEAK.
