FOOTBALL
RUGBY UNION.
Mr. D." D. Weir presided over last evening's meeting of the Wellington Rugby Union Management Committee.
R. Senior, a member of the Petone football team, was before the committee on a charge of disputing the referee's (Mr. E. B. L. Reade) decision. After cautioning Senior severely about disputing the referee's decision and using bad language on the field, the committee decided that he be suspended for two playing Saturdays. The captain of the Selwyn fourth-class team was also before the committee for playing a member of another club in his team in the match between Selwyn and College, last Saturday week. He stated that as he was one man short the player in question was brought to him as a substitute. .. On being questioned, the substitute stated that he had not played at all this season. After hearing the captain's evidence, the committee decided to take no further action against the Selwyn team.
The Chairman mentioned that as the inter-college tournament will be held towards the end of next week, no other Rugby matches will be played. A proportion of the receipts from the matches will be donated to the patriotic fund. A large gathering of the public is expected. The tournament will be held on Thursday, 24th August; Saturday, 26th August/and Monday, 28th August.
