MAGISTRATE'S COURT

Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., was on the Bench at to-day's sitting of tho Magistrate's Court.

For inebriety, Arthur Briggs, who had previous convictions against him, was fined 20s, default being fixed at three days' imprisonment. Alex. M'Swaney was convicted and discharged for drunkenness, and Cned £3, in default ordered to serve 14 days in gaol, for committing a grossly indecent act .in Molesworthstroet.

A plea of guilty was entered by Alfred Hansen, who was charged with stealing four brass padlocks, valued at 13s 4d, the property of tho Railway Department. The accused, who had several previous convictions for theft against him, was sent to gaol for one month.

Joseph Garver, alias Gayer, and Charles Lawson, who each stand charged indictably with theft, were further remanded for one week.
