SECOND-CLASS AT FIRST-CLASS FARES.
Answering a question by Mr. W. A. Veitch as to whether it is true that soldiers who have purchased first-class tickets between Trentham and Wellington are in some cases required to ride second ..class in order to reserve a firstclass car for officers, the Hon. W. H. Herries replied : "I am not aware of any instance in which soldiers ' who- have paid first-class fares have been required to ride second class in order toreserve first-class cars for the officers. So far as the Railway Department is concerned every passenger who procures a firstclass ticket and pays the first-class fare is entitled to travel in a first-class carriage." - -
