It was reported the other day that.the steamer Karuah, of the Newcastle and Hunter Eiver Company, had bacn sold to the Federal Government for £17,000. For .some weeks past the Federal lijrhthoiuo authorities have boon on the lookout for a suitable' vessel for lighthouse work along the' northern coast of Australia^ (soys Sydney Shipping List)., and the Kariia-h Fas tho vessel tolected. The Kuruah is n- useful tj'pe of sk-a-mor of 339 tons. She was specially designc-d for the Neucifsiio and Hunter River Company's Port Swjp'uoiir. trade, and since iicr arrival in 1003 has boon a regular trader potv.'een Sydney.
