ENGINEERS SECURE LOCAL AUTONOMY.
The Dominion branches of the .Amalgamated Society of Engineers (states "'lndustrial Tramp" in the Auckland Star) have succeeded in obtaining local selfrgovnrnment, subject, of course, to tab Executive Conncil, which is located ;n. London. Up till the present the Dominion brandies have been "governed by an- Australasian Gonncil, which sits ?.t Melbourne, and which 'consists of seven members, who mast reside within 15 miles from place of meeting. For some years past the. New Zealand brunches liavo claimed the right to establish a New Zealand Council. The New Zealand Council will bo formally instituted p,t' Christenurch on Ist July, the independent chairman of " tbfi Australasian Council (Mr. Thornton) coming over from Melbourne to install -the riew officers.
