"FAUST."
The Wellington Choral Union with which is incorporated the Royal Wellington Choral Society and the Wellington Musical Union,-will give its first concert of the season in the Town Hall on Tuesday, 4th July, .when the French grand opera "Faust" will be performed. The opera has been rehearsed for several months, and under Mr. Robert Parker's direction the . society's chorus and orchestra consisting of 320 members may be expected to give a dramatic rendering. Miss Elsy Treweek, of Melbourne, who is regarded as tho finest operatic singer'in Australasia at the present time, and who. made such a success in "Cavalieria" with the Royal Choral Society last year, is to undertake the heavy* part of Margarita. Mr. Frank Graham, of Dunedin, will take the tenor music written for "Faust," and Mr. Hamilton Hodges that of Mephistopheles. Valentine is to be sustained by Mr. Frank Charlton, while the parts of Siebei, Wagner, and Martha, are to be sung by Miss Eileen Driscoll, Mr. Charles Moore, ajid Miss Goyder respectively. A full rehearsal will, be held in St. John's on Tuesday next at 8 o'clock. The box plan opens at the Bristol Piano Company on the 27th. ,
At a meeting of the residents of Maranui, held in 'the Public School last evening, it was decided, with the co-operation of the committee and teaching staff, to promote a bazaar, to be held in the school during August. The proceeds will be devoted to the Wounded Soldiers Fund, and partly to the improvement of the school grounds.. The teachers will meet the ladies of the district on Tuesday afternoon next at the school, to further arrangements.
