BOEOUGH COUNCIL MEETING.

The fortnightly meeting of the Petone Borough Council was held last evening, the Mayor (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan, presiding There were also present Councillors Forsyth, List, Cox, Anderson, Brocklebank, M'Dougall, M'Kenzie, and Jones,

Mr. G. H. Stupples's request for a cancellation of his second-hand dealer's license was granted.

Messrs.. Mum, Cotterell and Co. stated that they were now only using one motor-lorry within the borough, and asked the council to withdrawn the demand for a heavy traffic license on one of the two lorries previously made. The International Bible Students were granted permission to show a sacred picture on Sunday.

The lessee of a building, condemned as a dwelling by the Health Department, requested permission to use the erection as a shed, he having given notice to the previous tenant to vacate the premises immediately. He was informed that he must apply to the Health Department. A demand made by the owner of a workshop rented by the council for an extra 4s rental per week was not acceeded to.

Mr. J. Brough, who had met with injuries by f.illing into a sewerage trench, was granted £4 compensation, with the payment of medical expenses. The report of the Borough Engineer re the lighting of Koro Koro was held over until the settlers in the district have considered the matter.

The Town Clerk was directed to make enquiries as to what bad been done about the selection o£ books for the school circulating library. The Sanitary Inspector's attention was drawn to an offensive smell at the rubbish tip, and the sewerage engineer is x,o be asked to report on the working of the septic tank.

In order to facilitate the efficient working of the coal department of the municipality, which has now grown into considerable dimensions, it was decided to divide the district served into rounds, each of which will lie served on a differentday of the week. Customers in the various streets are to be notified on which day they may expect their supplies.
