VESSELS LOST DURING JANUARY.

According to the returns compiled by the Liverpool Underwriters' Association, 19 British steamers, of 69,688 tons gross, and 13 foreign sailing ships, of 15,095 tons, and 22 steamers, of 40,018 tons, or a total of 54 vessels, of 124,801 tons, were lost in January, as compared with 41 vessels, of 91,327 tons, in January. last year, and 23 ressels, of 51,179 tons, in January, 1914. The total estimate loss occasioned by the more important casualties in January was £2,441,500 in steam and £168,000 in sail, of'which £1,583,500 is attributable to the war.
