GREECE GIVES ASSURANCES

ITALY WILL NOW SPEEDILY ASSIST SERVIA

(Eeceived December 3, 10 a.m.) ROME, 2nd December. Baron Sonnino, Italian Foreign Minister, says that Greece has given the Allies the required assurances, and that Italy will now speedily assist Servia. AT ALL COSTS AND WITH EVERY SACRIFICE. (Received December 3, 1 p.m.) ROME, 2nd December. A crowded, expectant Chamber received with loud applause Baron Sonnino's important, statement regarding the position of the Entente's negotiations with Greece, and Italy' 3 own relations with Servia, which have been hitherto shrouded in mystery. Baron Sonnino said Greece's attitude at one time gave -rise to anxiety, but the situation had happily been cleared up. Greece had given the required assurances, and there was every reason to believe that a satisfactory settlement had been reached regarding the safety and freedom of movement of the Allies' forces in Macedonia: The presence of the Italian Bag on the other side of the Adriatic would constitute a reaffirmation of Italy's traditional policy, including the maintenance of Albanian independence. The strategical defence of the Adriatic was another pivot of Italy's policy. Italy had signed an agreement not k> conclude a separate peace. Servia's independence was of the greatest importance to Italy; the absorption of that country by Austria would constitute a great danger to Italy. "We cannot," said the Baron, "remain deat to Servia s appeal, and we will speedily do everything possible to assist the Servian army. In agreement with the Allies we have laid down the complete restoration of Servian independence as an indispensable condition of the termination of the war." (Gri#,t cheering and cries of "Viva la Servia !" Baron Sonnino concluded with an impressive declaration that Italy would pursue the war with all her strength, at all costs, and with every sacrifice.
