CHRISTMAS GIFTS

ASSOCIATED AMATEUR SPORTS' PROPOSAL. A meeting of the General Committee was held in Banks's College last, evening. There was a. good attendance. Mr. C- G. Wilson occupied the ch^ir. The secretary reported that a meeting of representatives and members of the various amateur sports clubs in the city and suburbs had been arranged to take place in No. 1 Committee Room, Town Hall, this evening, to make arrangements for the collection of subscriptions. Mr. Guise stated that arrangements had been made to circularise every amateur sports club in tjie Dominion, and that prominent gentlemen in each centre would be asked to convene representative meetings in their district at the earliest possible date. It was resolved to ask the following gentlemen to, act as conveners : — Mr. H. Frost, Auckland ; Mr G. H Mason, Chnstchurch ; Mr. J T. Hammond, Dunedin. The selection of conveners for the other centres was left in the hands of a subcommittee. Alter some discussion it was resolved^ that the gifts should consist of sweets (chocolates and barley sugar) and tobacco, and that aD hermetically sealed tin embdssed with suitable greetings from the donors should be forwarded to each soldier at the front. Prices and samples ■were submitted from various well-known firms, and a sub-committee was apointed to go into the matter. The Chairman reported that arrangements had been made to hold the smoke concert and social in the Concert Chamber, Town Hall, on 26th instant. It was decided that the fund should close on 20tb November.
