ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS

EXHIBITION OF PICTURES. With a view to . attracting visitors to the very excellent exhibition of pictures on view at the Art Gallery, Whitmore, street, the exact locality of which many are unaware of, but which immediately faces the telephone exchange at the back of the Government Buildings, the Council of the Academy has decided to open ] the exhibition free on Wednesday and' Thunsday to any purchaser of a shilling art union ticket, which can be obtained at the door The full value of the tickets sold will be drawn at the gallery on Thursday evening, and winners are allowed to select their own prizes. As the great majority of the best pictures are unsold, there should be many tempting prizes offered to the winners. The students' competitions this year resulted as follow : — Study from antique, black, white, or monochrome, C. Pound (Wellington) ; study of human figure, •black, white, or monochrome^ C. Thompson (Dunedin) ; study of head in round, M. Green (Wellington) ; a piece of jewellery, designed and executed by exhibitor, M. Still (Wellington).
