REPORTING OF SOLDIERS DEATHS
ALLEGED CARELESSNESS. (BY TO.EGR4PH— PRESS ASSOCIATION.) AUCKLAND, This Day. Mrs. Melvine, a resident of Greenlane ; received a bundle yesterday containing the effects of Charles Gordon Campbell, her nephew, who enlisted with the 2nd Reinforcements. . The bundle contained a tag intimating that the property was that of a deceased soldier. This was the first intimation she had of the lad's death, though she was next-of-kin, the mother and father being both dead. She suffered a terrible shock. NELSON, This Day. With reference to a resident of Green,lane receiving a bundle of a deceased soldier's clothing, a Nelson parent, J. Garvin, received a similar parcel last week. Replying to enquiries, the Defence Department stated that it was possible the soldier had, been wounded and removed to a hospital ship. Yesterday the Garvins received a letter from their son to that effect.
