MIRAMAR FIRE BRIGADE

o COMPETITIONS AND SMOKE CONCERT. The Miramar Volunteer Firo Brigade held a series of competitions on Saturday afternoon. There was a small attendance of spectators. The Mayor (Mr. F. Townsend) acted as judge, Messrs. R. E. Bennett and W. Houchen as starters, and Mr. A. E. M. Rowlands as timekeeper. Following are the results: Five men event (trophy presented by Mr. S. H. Underwood). — Miramar Section, 1. One Man Event. — Miramar Branch : R. Ogden, 1 ;' W. Hull, 2. Seatoun Branch : M. Tracy, 1; J. Buttran, 2. The work of the brigade was very favourably commented upon, and the smart manner in which members carried out the various movements was evidence of the careful training they have received. In the evening, a smoke concert was given by the brigade to the Mayor and Councillors of Miramar. The function was held in the Miramar Town Hall. As president of the brigade, the Mayor (Mr. F. Townsend) presided. Superin tondent Tait, of the City Fire Brigade, was included among the guests. Tha usual toasta were honoured. Reference was made to Fireman F. Alexander, who is a member of the 7th Reinforcements, and his health was enthusiastically drnnk. Songs were given by Messrs. W. Houchen and S. Stone, and a piano eolo by Mr. Haig. Long service was recognised as follows :— Five years' medal, T. Boon (two yeans in Wellington Fire Brigade, and three years in Miramar V.F.8.) j two years' bars, G. F. Edwards (six years in Wellington F.B and three years in M. V.F.8.) ; certificates for three years in M. V.F.8., F. Mildenhall, F. Alexander, S. Stone, H. Coombes, M. Tracy, M. EJradson, W. Hull, J. Brittain, C. Webb, and J. Mansfield.
