FRENCH CLUB
♦ The French Club had a busy meeting on Thursday evening under the presidency of Captain Barclay. It was decided to endeavour to co-operate with the "Auckland French Club in raising funds for the French Red Cross Society. It was proposed to try to hold a public patriotic meeting, at which a number of short addresses in French should be given, but further consideration of the matter was eventually adjourned for a week. After the business was settled the literary part of the evening's engagements began. Mr. Cooke contributed a song sung with spirit. Madame Dechanet-MTntosh, Miss Mead, and Miss Hind gave a dialogue representing such a scene as might have occurred in France shortly " after the war of 1870. After this two short- pieces were read — one by- Miss Hind on "The Influence of Clothes on Character," the other by Miss M'Diarmid on "A Comparison Between French and English Literatures."
