NATIONAL RESERVE
The Lyall Bay unit of the Reserve held its weekly parade on Thursday night, the early part of the evening being confined to arms and squad drill. Sergt. C. J. Ashton, late captain of the unit, instructed the men in rifle exercises and bayonet fighting. After the company had been grounded in the elementary part of the latter exercises, the officers and n.c.o.'s were put through the full course, enabling them to include this section of drill in the company's future training. Considering this was the first time the men had been through the bayonet fighting, the work was satisfactory, the- members evincing the keenest interest. The usual weekly parades of the Thorn-don-Wadestown unit at the Normal School in Brook -street are well attended. The company has made good progress in its work, and the members are displaying much interest, and enthusiasm. A full company parade will be held at Kelburn Park at 7.30 on Tuesday evening in lieu of the usual weekly drill.
