FARM LABOUR
— . * SHORTAGE NOT ANTICIPATED. Close attention has been given by tho various agencies of the, Labour Department to the supply of labour for farms during the coming harvest. As was surmised some time ago, it is improbable that any extra labour will be required in the Waikato district. The agent of the Department at Hamilton, reporting on the matter, states that he has been in close touch with the secretary of [the Farmers' . Union, who is more confident than ever that there will be no shortage of hands during harvesting in the province. Further, the secretary of the Farmers' Union states that he has more labour offering at present than he can place. The fanners in his district are falling in with the suggestion for selfhelp — that they should assist one another with harvesting during the 1 busy season. ■Recent reports from Canterbury show that there is an excess of farm labour at the present time. No doubt the rains which have fallen since the report was written will make a material difference in the situation, and available labour will now be readily absorbed. Representatives of Wc»rarapa farmers met the Labour Department agent recently, and it was decided that until about the end of November it would not be possible for farmers generally to form any idea as to the number of harvesters likely to be required. The recent rainfall, however, will have a great effect upon the volume of the harvest in the province, and it is more than probable that a great deal of labour will be required for the district.
To-morrow afternoon the military march "Our Boys" will be played by the "Earl of Liverpool's Own" Regimental Band while marching through the city. The march is on sale at The Bristol Piano Co., Ltd.
