MIRAMAR BOROUGH

The Miramar Borough Council met last evening. Present : The Mayor (Mr. IT. Tonwsendjjjand Councillors S. 5.1. Stone, H. Hawthorne, M. Tracy, W. H. Green, and J. Pollock. The use of the Town Hall for one night a week was granted rent free to the Miramar Band of Hope. The receipts and expenditure for the half-year ended 30th September showed an increase of rates of £797 19s 6d. Drainage deposits and inspection fees had decreased as the work of connecting dwellings was practically completed Tramway returns increased by £84 12s 4d compared with last year, being principally due to power supplied for the full six months as against five and a-half months last year. The average quantitj' of water supplied per month in 1913 was £43. in 1914 £51, and now £77. The Borough Engineer (Mr. T' O. Fox) in bis report stated that during the month three connections had been made with the water mains, making the total number of consumers 394, ana two permits were issued for sewer connections, which now numbered 318. Five permits were granted to builders, the value of the work being ,£235 and the fees_£2. The chief road repairs carried out had been on Karaka Bay-road, which would be finished in four or five days as far as Panl's corner. A start would then be made with the improvement of Worser Bay Part of the new piece of wall on Marine Parade had been built, but the work was being delayed owing to adverse tides and heavy gales. During the last few months a considerable amount of work had been done in the reserves. Water purchased from the city fo» three months ending 30th September was 5,867,000 gallons. The amount consumed in. the borough during the same period totalled 5,492,000 gallons, which left a deficiency of 375,000 gallons, or 6 , per cent, of the total quantity purchased..
