BANKING RETURNS
SOME STRIKING FIGURES. The returns of five of the six banks trading in the Dominion for the quarter ended 30th September are to hand. The returns of the one bank which are not yet available will not materially alter tho comparison of the quarter just closed with tho corresponding period for 1914, which includes the aggregate returns of all six institutions operating in New Zealand. Shillings v and pence in the totals have boen omitted. Tho figures compare as follow : —

The members of the Ammunition Column (Otago High School Old Boys and Friends) will parade on Saturday at 2 p.m. sharp, at the corner of Waring Taylor-street, opposite Wairarapa Farmers. A full attendance is requested. In the course of the debate on the Alien Enemy Teachers Bill last evening a member asserted there was German trading with Samoa. It was said that four sailing vessels were seen in the harbour at one time. The Prime Minister said the Government had been apprised of what was going on. afid was watching carefully. He would not say what was going to •be done, but the authorities were thoroughly alive to the facts. "T have evidence," said the Piemier, "of a good deal of trading.'" At 1.30 p.m. to-morrow Messrs.
