TRAINS COLLIDE PASSENGERS AND OFFICIALS INJURED. (By Telegraph.— P.-ess Association.— Copyright.) ADELAIDE, 6th October. Two passenger trains collided at Henly beach. The two firemen and the two guards of the trains were injured, and twenty-two passengers suffered from bruises and shock. ' The engines and three of the carriages v/ero badly smashed. The Anglican Synod carried motions condemning the totalisator, and urging ' the introduction of legislation to provide for a referendum on the question of permanently closing hotels earlier. ADELAIDE, This Day. The Legislative Council has passed a Bill, closing hot-els at 6 o'clock. A further amendment of the Licensing Act will be necessary to bring the Bill into operation at the expiry of present licenses in March. QUEENSLAND BUDGET FORECAST OF NEW TAXATION. The steamer El Cordobes, which has i arrived from Liverpool, claims to be the first British deep-sea vessel to experiment in the substitution of women for seamen's lighter occupations. The experiment did not prove -a success. IMPORTATION OF WHEAT . COST TO N.S.W. GOVERNMENT. (Received October 7, 9 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. Before the Commission enquiring into the wheat claims, evidence was givem that the Government had imported to date 91,868,685 pounds of wheat, costing £474,980. The Commonwealth had entered into an agreement to secure freight for the exportable surplus wheat. TELEGRAPH INTERRUPTED SYDNEY, 6th October.
