SUPPOSED INCENDIARISM
(BT TELEGRAPH.— PRESS ASSOCIATION.) ASHBURTON, 6th October. What looks suspiciously like attempted incendiarism occurred a day or two ago when at midnight a barrel of oily rags was found burning in John Newman's livery stables and carriage shed, while along side the barrel a heap of canvas wheelcovers over which a quantity of petrol had been poured, was also discovered. After the fire had been quenched a search of the shed revealed several opened tins of petrol in various places and other evidence of a deliberate attempt to fire, not the carriage shed alone, but also the congested block of chops and business premises, which it is at the rear of. ' The discovery was made just in time to prevent a serious outbreak.
