"WAITING & WATCHING"

MR. WEBB'S COMPLAINT. Reading from a paper which he held in his hand yesterday, Mr. P. C. Webb, in the House of Representatives, said that printed instructions had been circulated among the police saying that it was known, that Mr. Semple and other Federa'bionists and agitators were organising and watching and waiting for a favourable time to cause trouble. Every effort was to be made to find out what was going on in certain branches of labour, including farm labour. Semple and the rest of them, said Mr Webb, had played the game, and their supporters and colleagues had volunteered in greater numbers than any other section of the community. Mr. Buick^ Rot! Mr. Webb ; "1 am talking truth !" He said it was not fair that the police should be called upon to do this spy work. The Hon. A. L. Herdman rose to point out that the matter before the House was the number ot men of the Public Service who- had gone to the front. Mr. Webb said he did not think the Minister had sent out the instructions referred to, or knew about them.
