Mr. Paul Latham, late manager in advance of the Plimmer-Hall Company, has been appointed manager of The King's Theatre, Wellington. Mr. W. H. Rose, for the past 26 years manager of the'Oamaru branch of the National Mortgage and Agency Company, Ltd., is retiring from the service. He joined the company 36 years ago. f The Rev. Archibald G. Brown has accepted an invitation from th© church officers to continue his ministry at the Vivian-street Baptist Church until the end of the year. Sergeant-Major Farrell, of the Defence staff at Palmerston North, has been tiansferred to Wellington. SergeantMajor Mathieson, of the 6th Mounted Rifles, Palmerston, has been appointed to fill the vacancy, An old resident of Nelson, Mr. • Frederick William Constable, of Bridgestreet, was found drowned in the Maitai River on Sunday. Deceased had not enjoyed good health lately, and had been suffering from fits of depression. Boyce of woundo) was born in Kilmarnock twenty-two years ago, and came to New Zealand in 1907 with his parents, who settled in Marlborough. He was living there when he enlisted in the Main Expedi tionary Force. Mrs. H. Booker, of Palmerston North, is his sister, and he has a brother, Private D. Boyce, in the Trentham Regiment. The Rev. Mr. M'Caw, Lower Hutt, and Dr. Elliott conducted the funeral service of the late Mr. John B. Virtue at Karori to-day. Among those present, apart from members of his family, "were Mr. Evans, of Timaru, representing the Flourmillens' Association, Mr. H. Baldwin, Mayor of Lower Hutt, and a large number of business friends in the flour and grain trades. Mr. , A. A.' Bennett, solicitor, of Wei lington, has been appointed managing clerk £or Messrs. Roy and Nicholson, of New Plymouth, and he will leave for the North on Friday next. For many years Mr. Bennett has been secretary of the Wellington Hockey Association, in which position he has rendered valuable assistance to the sport. Before leaving, Mr. Bennett will be tendered a complimentary social by his hockey friends.
