PROGRESS OF BILLS

In the House of Representatives last night consideration was given to the Legislative Council's amendments of the Mortgages Extension Bill (the Hon. A. L. Herdman). After some discussion, in which opposition was offered to the amendments, the House agreed to accept part of them, but to disagree with two new clauses. The Hon. A. L. Herdman and Messrs. T. M. Wilford and E. P. Lee were appointed managers to confer with the Legislative Council representatives. The Prime Minister asked leave to hold over the Prisons Amendment Bill (Hon.
