Thirteen inebriates figured on tho charge-Bheet presented to Mi 1 . D. G. A. Cooper. S.M., at the Magistrate's Court this morning. Kathleen Gerity denied the charge of drunkenness, and another charge of being an idle and disorderly person. She was sent to gaol for three months. Six first offenders were "convicted and discharged ; one of them was a soldier, and he was ordered to be handed over to the military authorities. Charles M'Carthy was fined 20s^ three days' imprisonment in default ; James * Henry Munay and Thomas Christiansen were fined 10s each, with the alternative of 48 hours in gaol : John M Kinnon was ordered to pay 40s, or to go to gaol for seven days ; and George Muller, who had been remanded for medical treatment, was fined £2, and ordered to pay £1 2s 6d medical expenses. In default of payment he will go to gaol for seven days. Inspector Hendrey pressed for a bubstantial penalty in the case of Walter Cole, who, through his solicitor, Mr. J. S. W. Dickson, had pleaded guilty to a, charge of having plied a prohibited woman with liquor. His Worship imposed a fine of £5, with 7s costs, Edith Conroy, who pleaded .guilty to having escaped from tho Salvation Army Reformatory, promised to stay in the institution if she was sent back. She was ordered to return. Grace Manson, charged with having used obscene language at Christchurch, was defended by Mr. O'Leary. It was decided to adjourn the hearing of tho cage until to-morrow moniing. Bail was fixed at £10. Henry Francis M'Elroy. for whom Mr. H. O'Leary appeared, pleaded guilty to having committed two breaches of a prohibition order. On each charge he was fined 10s, with costs 7s, or in tho alternative 48 hours' imprisonment. Thomas Williams was ordered to pay 10s a week towards the support of his child who is in the Wellington Receiving Home, and whose wife is in the Salvation Army Home. Edward Myers, charged with the theft of 9s 7d and a gold watch and chain was remanded until to-morrow, bail being fixed at £25. Alfred Gregory was ordered to contribute 2s 6d a week towards the support of his aged father. Thomas Hodges was ordered to pay 5s a week off his arrears under a maintenance order for the support of his wife and to keep up the payment of £1 a. week under the order.
