Numbers of men fell, particularly officers, and Col. Wyllie asked permission to help. This was reluctantly granted. Going ashore, the colonel ran in front of the foremost Australians and shouted : "Men, follow !" Inspired by the magnetism of the example, the Australasians responded with a cheer. They rushed up the fire* swept, slippery incline; and carried position after position until the enemy wa« cleared out. Col.
