NATIONAL RESERVE

There was again a first-class muster of tho Brooklyn seotion v of the National Reserve at tho State School grounds last evening. Lieut. J. W-. Steel v-as in command. Two squads were exercised in platoon movements undor the direction of Sergeant Ramsay and Corporal Mollison, and the members acquitted themselves to the satisfaction, of their instructors. After drill, a meeting was held, Councillor Geo. Frost (president) being in the chair. It was decided to enter a team for the coming flag toiirnament to be held on 10th July, in connection with the carnival, and drill will start this -week. Mr. H. T. Cooper was elected secretary, vice Mr. E.. F. Buckle, resigned. A considerable amount of labour was put in by members on Saturday last in connection with the miniature rifle range, and another effort by the working-boo should about , finish the work. Additional members have been added to the list. The Mirafmar unit of C Company, National Reserve, have now been armed with Mauser rifles, and on Wednesday paraded for the ((first time with them, under Ser-geant-Major Lang. The election of Lieuts. Rowntreo and Forno has been confirmed by headquarters. A team has beon formed to compete in the National Reserve competition, on 10th iJuly, and over twenty men under the n.c.o.'s have been in training three nights a week for the past few weeks. The final squad of sixteen will be chosen during the next few days, together with the n.c.o. who will take charge. A miniature rifle range has been formed, to provide shooting practice for the members, for which miniature service rifles have been supplied. The Wellington South seotion of the National Reserve had an_ excellent parade last night. The section is now up to full' company strength, special classes are still being held for the further training of n.c.o.'s, and n .special signalling squad ia being trained. Last week the company had the second of their lectures, and tho Library Hall was well filled. Major A. A. Corrigan gave his experiences and what he saw in the trenches in Northern France. Major C. B. Morison, commanding officer of the Ist Regiment, was in the_ chair, and during tho course of the evening a vote of sympathy was expressed to the Hon. J. Allen at the loss of his son, and also to .Major Mprison, who had just received word of the wounding of His son. The next lecture! dt the series will bo given on Thursday, Ist Jidy. The Wellington Central section of the National Reserve Foroo paraded at the Willis-street school grounds on Tuesduy evening, under the command of Captain F. Bowles, O.C. The following officers were present :— Lieut. Juriss, Sorgeats Keen, Almao, Seaioun, and Sherwood, who acted as section commanders. The O.p. expressed himself as well_ satisfied with the progress of the section. Tho competition squad, under Sergeant Mohr, was put through the various movements.
