COMPETITIONS
■TO-DAY'S SELECTIONS. The competitions in connection with the Carnival were continued at the Concert Chamber to-day. Judges : Messrs. Harcus Plimmer and George Osborne. For the humorous recital, restricted to ladies (own selection) there were nine entries. Those who competed were: — Misses Freda Beale ("My Dilemma"), Flo Gow ("My Dilemma"), E. Griffiths ("At the Box Office"), Joy Sutherland ("The Girl and the Gloves"), Mrs. G. R. Watson ("The Lover"), Mrs. Tingey ("Keeping a Seat at the Benefit"), Miss Shepherd ("The Novel"). The recalls were Mrs. Tingey, Misses Gow, Griffiths, and Shepherd. Hon. mention, Miss Sutherland. JUVENILE PIANISTES. The class for solo pianistes under 21 (own selection) attracted the following competitors :— Misses A. Thomas ("Moonlight on the Hudson," Wilson) ; . Crump ("Staccato Caprice," Vogrich) ; Phyllis Connolly ("Berceuse in D Flat," Chopin) ; M. Glegg ("Rondo Brilliante, Weber) ; Stella Boon ("Allegro," Kuhlau). The recalls were Misses Crump and Connolly. Hon. mention, Miss Boon. LADY VOCALISTS. The entrants for the section song by ladies were as follow !■— -Missea R. Thompson ("Sleep and the Roses"), D. M'Morran ("Two Eyes of Grey"), M. Gamble ("Wake Up"), A. Hodgson ("The Meeting of the Waters"), Doris Guy ("Cradle Song"), Mrs. H. W. Temple ("Soul of Mine"). The recalls were Misses Thompson, M'Morran, and Gamble. The competitors were mainly young girls. There were several voices fnll | of promise among them. A LACK OF HUMOUR. There were seven entrants for the comic section, but only four faced the judges, as follow : — Mr. Alan Fuller, ("Tho Top Note"), Mr. T. Hrketa ("Rolling Down to Rio"), Mr. A. T. Peake (" Sidney's Holidays "), and Miss 0. Hedberry ("Billy Simmons"). None of the competitors were recalled. A humorous recital for boys was entered by Fergus Reeves ("The Inventor's Wife"), Leith Riddell ("An Interrupted Ode"), Walter Tonke ("So Was I"), James Walshe ("The Kaiser and St. Peter"), Noel Liardet ("Two's Company "). Masters Reeves, Liardet, and Walshe were recalled.
